Roaring Laughter is all about having fun with humor. You'll tell jokes, try tongue twisters, and act out silly skits. Laughing together brings your den closer.
Why it's worth it
Laughing together is one of the best ways to make friends, and Roaring Laughter is all about it. You'll figure out what makes you laugh, twist your tongue around silly sentences, act out charades, hold a joke contest, and practice run-ons for the campfire. Knowing how to make people laugh, in a kind way, helps you at school, at camp, and everywhere else.
Start this week
- Ask your family to share the funniest thing that happened to them this week.
- Try saying "She sells seashells by the seashore" five times fast.
- Find a kids' joke book at the library and pick three favorites.
- Write down three charades ideas, like an animal, a sport, and a job.

Every official requirement and part, numbered to match Scouting America, in plain language. Sign off against the official wording (opens in a new tab).
- Requirement 1
Think about what makes you laugh and discuss it with your den or family
Tip: Talk about what makes you laugh, like funny faces, jokes, or silly stories.
For example: Make a list of things that make you laugh: a puppy chasing its tail, a funny voice, a surprise ending. Share it with your den and see whose lists are alike.
- Requirement 2
Practice reading tongue twisters
Tip: Try a tongue twister slowly, then faster and faster.
For example: Start slow with a classic tongue twister, then speed up. Then make up your own using words that start with the same sound, like "Bears bake big blueberry biscuits."
- Requirement 3
Play charades with your den or family
Tip: Play charades with your den or family. Act out animals, movies, or sports.
- Requirement 4
Hold a contest for the funniest joke with your den or family
Tip: Have everyone tell a joke, then vote for the funniest. Keep jokes kind.
For example: Each person tells their best joke, and everyone votes with a thumbs up. Keep jokes kind: no jokes that make fun of a person or a group of people.
- Requirement 5
Practice run-ons with your den or family
Tip: Practice a short run-on skit you can do at a campfire.
For example: A run-on is a quick joke skit. One Scout walks across holding an empty leash. Another asks, "What's that?" "My invisible dog. Want to pet him?" "No thanks, he looks like he bites."
Talk about it together
- What made you laugh the hardest during this adventure?
- How can you tell when a joke is kind and when it might hurt someone?
- How did it feel to perform in front of others?
- Who in your life always makes you laugh, and how do they do it?
